Star Wars Galaxies players coming to Guild Wars
Well someone did a wow thread ill do the SWG one.
I left SWG in feburary after soe broke the TEF system, the CU from what I heard is lacking. I played the last BWE and gave my friends key to a friend, he has since pre-ordered, as have I (Both Collectors edition).
The design of this game, the instanced areas, the fact there dont seem to be a Flavor of the month, can jump right in, the lack of a real grind, etc etc etc, I can go on and on why I love this game.
I had 3 accounts on SWG + Jedi played since launch.
I think GW will be the NEXT big thing and developers will create all future mmorpgs around this game, IMHO I feel GW has raised the bar.

I tried to play SWG a few times, last time I tried I think i did 15 profs then got bored. Last time i played was last easter i think, GW looks like its gonna be good. I like the free thing caus I cant always afford to pay the monthly fees but saving up for the game-packs is a bit easier.

Leaving SWG
We've had characters in SWG for 2 years. Hubby plays his jedi character and has mastered every profession. Most of the gameplay is done with macros. You could set up your character to play and then go to school or work all day and come home to a house full of money, or a ton of XP.
I started to play my character without macros, but then got greedy and used them to level up real fast. Then school got real hectic and I had to take a break. My hubby turned my character into a bot. She ran continuously to heal/buff anyone who needed it in the guild.
Now everyone in the guild is jedi except lil ol' cyrlyx. She has no combat xp anymore becuase all she does is heal/buff. SOE promises you can become a jedi without combat but that seems very unlikely. Can you imagine, crafter jedi? wooooo intimidating...
anywho. I totally love GW. I love the new content streamed in and not having to wait for updates evry few months. I love the quests that actually add to the story.
Anywho I'll shut up now...

I was totally obessed with SWG for 6 months before it came out, and for about 5 months after it came out... then came the grinding, and I decided it was total boring BS.

I used to play on the Chilastra server.
Quite a character I was, heh. But I've decided to change my ways.

I had two accounts on Bria. Played from Jan '04 to Nov '04 - left because the game had become very stale, and the influx of Jedi seemed ridiculous (that and I had my degree to finish!). It seemed as though they were forcing player to go Jedi once the revamp kicked in.
Over the last few months I've been tempted to return, just to see how the new CU handles, along with the Wookiee expansion. JTL was poor IMO.
Instead of returning to SWG after a 6 month break, I've picked up a copy of Guild Wars though yet to get stuck in, as been busy with my last few assignments...

During the time I left SWG, it was just after the launch of Jump to Lightspeed. The combat upgrade was still just a promise in the future. What did the cu do? What profs were affected and how? I was a Master Bounty Hunter and that prof was already nerfed beyond belief.

From the stories I hear now concerning the Combat Balance, I'm glad I left when I did. An example of what people are saying: Slashdot's page of rants.
Personally, I started a few months after release; falling in love with the PVP system. Fights went quick and were intense, sometimes ending in the first 10 seconds, sometimes lasting at most a whole minute.
Slowly the battles morphed into 10 minute long 1vs1 test of will. Armor at 90%, buffing stats from 800 to 4000, it just became... boring. Dissapointed, I left a few months after JTL expansion was released.
I'm liking and learning GW now, so far my only concern is a single monk that can out-heal the damage output of 3 people... But I think as more skills become unlocked in the upcoming months, better de-buffing and anti-healing will become more prevaliant.

The Combat Upgrade gave people less skills to use, destroyed crafting forever and added cheap animations. I left Swg & Wow the very day Guild Wars was realsed, After i played for 1 hour i knew it was a step up in the mmorpg world. graphics, story and not to mention the size of the map.
good game

I left SWG in November 04... Could take the $15 every month for a game I had already paid for... I love that GW is free online and if you want to buy their add-ons you can, but you don't have too... I'm sure I will though!! I have really enjoyed what little I seen of the entire world!!

I played swg from nov 2003 to now and the CU complately killed the game for me. I was a crafter and one of the best on my server so i've been told anyway But is just not fun any more so I heard about GW and read a bit about it and decided i would give it a go. Pleased i did GW has somethings i don't like EG not being able to move when attacking or being attacked. But its pretty good so far.
